The Orthodox Church, based in Constantinople, split from the Roman Catholic Church in 1054, with the Pope and the Archbishop (or Patriarch) of Constantinople mutually excommunicating each other, mainly over the "filioque" affair, in the Great Schism; see ; .

Although the Byzantine or Eastern Roman Empire based in Constantinople appeared to be militarily strong in 1054, having long survived the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the late 5th century, it was the Great Schism that finally sealed its doom the hands of the Ottoman Turks, in the 14th century (when in 1356 the Turks first landed in Europe on the Gallipoli Peninsula) and finally in 1453. Despite desperate pleas, they could not get any help from the Holy Roman Emperor and the Pope in Rome, by way of forces and supplies to help repel the Turks, because of the Great Schism.

HPB has spoken what her views are about organized religions, especially the

anthromorphic Gods. Wish she were here today with today's access to Internet

and what can be done with it.
