Re: Theos-World Re: [theos-l] TS - Current Condition - Comments by a well-known member

Actions speak louder than words. Facts speak for themselves. To see what
many leaders in TS have done since last December, one has to just visit
Anton's website at:

The events that brought us where we are today, started with the attempt of
some GC members to potentially misinform voting members about the physical
and mental health of Radha Burnier for the sole purpose of defeating her and
getting their candidate elected.

Even after three well-known, highly reputed physicians from two continents
(one was a well-regarded General Secretary) declared her fit, the GC members
behind the potential misinformation campaign did not have the courtesy or
courage to pass on this new professional information to their members to be
fair to the candidate and to the members. Nor the candidate they supported
came out to set the facts straight. We expect leaders in an organization
whose motto is THERE IS NO RELIGION HIGHER THAN TRUTH, to do better. What
this did was for many members to lose trust they had in their leaders.

When the election results were announced, many of us thought that the matter
was settled and we expected everyone to move forward to find a solution to
the burning serious problem of downward trend of membership everywhere
except India. On the heels of the election results, instead, we heard about
the whining about huge membership in India and how the governance at Adyar
is the most serious issue even though no one has come out how this issue is
going to fix the downward trend in membership outside India.

Then came the shocking proposal by the same group of leaders to
disenfranchise all the members and seize the power at Adyar and make the
president a puppet. None of the dues paying members were told about the
disenfranchisement. But it was a super secret proposal known only to the GC
members. Even the worker bees at Adyar and Olcott woke up one day and found
out about it from the Internet, because a few brave souls had the wisdom and
courage to let all of us know about it.

The intent of the proposal was to be taken up speedily by the GC at its
December meeting and get it approved. It would have been a done deal, but
for Internet, and all of us would have been surprised and shocked by the

This surreptitious move by the clique made members lose more of their trust
in their leaders. Anyone with little common sense can see the motivation and
the end results these GC members were pursuing.

All actions/activities relative to and the proceedings of the GC are
conducted in the greatest secrecy. So the membership have no idea as to what
else is cooking behind the "closed doors." With the background of the events
since December and the consequent very low level of trust many members have
in their leaders, members have to be vigilant so that GC in its mistaken
priorities (and perhaps self-interests) may take decisions detrimental to
ordinary members, TS and theosophy. Let us not blame members that they do
not display a high sense of Brotherhood towards the leaders.

Again, while it may be unpalatable to some, all one needs to do is to look
at the facts, people involved and the timing of events and come to their own
conclusions. In the meanwhile, vigilance in each one of us is called for
because it is coming from the deep gratitude we owe to Theosophy and TS, an
organization built-up by the immense sacrifices of thousands of members for
more than a Century.
