   I would read up on the subject more there is a wealth on information available to inform as to what , where, when why etc in regard to Tibetan Buddhism, Dalai Lama who has for decades been well established at Dharmasala I believe in India with a large world-wide Organization and has not "been on the run". Richaerd Gere is a very small cog in the overall picture. The Chinese are a Permanent Security Council Member of the UN they hold Veto Power. The UN voted to recognize the Chinese Annexation of Tibet and most of the world community also recognizes it also. The Dalai Lama himself for a long time has publicly recognized and accepted the Chinese as having permanent possession of Tibet in his Public formal speeches. The USA recognizes it also as do the Eu and Other large Nations including the Non-aligned members of the UN.
  What the Chinese did not successfully murder and destroy of Tibet has been largely moved to safe sanctuary's outside of Tibet. It is the story of  "How the Swans Came to America" and elsewhere. there are many Tibetan Gompa's here in America, they al all over America with a large following. It was predicted to happen a long time ago.  The Dalai lama's Dharmasala HDQTRS has also hosted the expatriation of the ancient Bon of Tibet to India and elsewhere complete with their large holdings of Lineage Instructions and Archives, they are are all out of Tibet and safe. The Skywalkers are forever Skywalkers they are no longer beholden to physical bodies. Olmo Rung ling remains unassailable and unapproachable as before. Most of us were deeply outraged and upset by the Chinese actions and still are but reality is reality and beating a dead horse is a futile and irrational action. Historical karma is also a factor there is a long chain of events involved research can reveal.

I wonder what has happened to the skywalkers now that Communist China 
has taken over and has systematically rooted out and put to the sword 
the monks and monasterys that were the mainstay of Tibetan buddhism. 

The Dalai Lama has been on the run all these years and I dont hear a 
peep out of anyone except for Richard Gere who at least made an 
attempt to generate interest in their plight. It seems that Red China 
is just too big of a plum for corporate bosses to let anyone upset 
their apple cart of greed by doing anything about the erasure of 
Tibetan culture and the headquarters of the brotherhood.
