Nevertheless, its well known that HPB was addicted to cigarettes
which she rolled herself or by rolling machine and she admits as much
herself in a number of venues. Regarding this aspect of HPB and to
quote scripture, she says in The Key p262:
"Wine and spirits are worse for spiritual growth than meat for
alchohol has a very deleterious effect on mans psychic condition.
Wine and spirit drinking is less destructive to to inner powers
however, than the use of hash, whether mixed in brownies or taken
straight, opium, and similar drugs."
So here she gives us a ranked list of harmful practices: meat,
alchohol, drugs. I include tobacco in the list of drugs and believe
it is similarly destructive to inner development as HPB describes but
did not practice.
