ARE LEADBEATER & BESANT DEAD?
Oct 31, 2006 11:07 AM
C. W. Leadbeater's and A. Besant's policies and visions about the Theosophical Movement, Adyar, are entirely alive and running.
The practical results of their mistakes, 'clairvoyant' fancies, messianic & ritualistic proposals, as their denial of H.P.B., inform the living structure of the Adyar TS and also influence the movement as a whole, more than many a student suspects.
Understanding the mistakes of the 41 years Leadbeatear/Besant period (1895-1934), and reading their practical lessons, is still an unavoidable historical task. It refers to a part of the movement which gathers some 90% of people who call themselves theosophists in the world today.
CWL and A. Besant are biologically dead since 1933-1934. Yet the influence of their blind-belief ritualism is still the biggest stumbling block for the movement as a whole.
For some time, it was thought by many in Adyar that the 'next historical step' would be be 'Krishnamurtian'. There is a trend of thought within Adyar TS which still thinks that way. That trend definitely includes Ms. Radha Burnier, the international president since 1980 (26 years already).
>From the viewpoint of some H. P. B. students, however, 'Krishnamurtian' viewspoints can't offer a real alternative since he did not even accept fact like Karma Law or Reincarnation, and his proposal included abandoning the theosophhical movement as something "post Messiah", merely bureaucratic and therefore unnecessary. I doubt if he ever read HPB or the Mahatma Letters. He certainly did not understand them.
