Well, I think you missed the fact that I was pulling Leon's leg. I
am very skeptical that there is any "karma" in the sense that most
people think of it, although the explanation given by Patanjali and
the Buddha makes sense.
As for the Tasmanians, what Blavatsky says in her SD that they
are "completely extinct" in accordance with her cycle theory, and
that "the Australians [are] rapidly dying out." The truth is, of
course, that the Tasmanians were the victims of deliberate genocide
and that the "Australians" (meaning the aborigines) are not "rapidly
dying out" now that the genocide program directed against them has
been discontinued. Human agency and not cosmic cycles seems to have
been the cause of the destruction of these peoples. There is no good
reason to believe she was right when she accused the aborigines of
being sub human, animalistic, and so forth. Nobody is right all the
time, so this should not be an insuperable problem. It does seem
that there could have been atr least one word of disapproval in the
SD for the systematic slaughter of an entire people. A collection of
quotes follows.
I heard on NPR today that there is an organization called "Rabbis for
Human Rights" which has been formed to protest human rights
violations in that part of Palestine temporarily known as Israel.
Yjere are numerous web sites. Most people there support the
continuing mistreatment of the Palestinians, but these folks not only
are standing up for what they believe is right, they are actually
interposing their own bodies between "settlers" who are shooting
Palestinians for sport and their intended victims. I have to say,
that is putting your money where your mouth is. It is important for
us to be reminded from time to time that there are men of conscience
in a world which seems at times to have been taken over by cynicism
and opportunism.
SD 2.162 "the inferior Races, of which there are still some analogues
left ? as the Australians (now fast dying out)
SD 2.195 "Of such semi?animal creatures, the sole remnants known to
Ethnology were the Tasmanians, a portion of the Australians and a
mountain tribe in China
SD 2.196 "such semi?human stocks ? e.g., the wild men of Borneo, the
Veddhas of Ceylon, classed by Prof. Flower among Aryans (!), most of
the remaining Australians, Bushmen, Negritos, Andaman Islanders, etc.
SD 2.328 "some of the Australian tribes are the last remnants of the
last descendants of the Third Race.
SD 2.318 "The Australians and their like are the descendants of
those, who, instead of vivifying the spark dropped into them by
the "Flames," extinguished it by long generations of bestiality.
2.328 "Behold," writes a MASTER, "the relics of that once great
nation (Lemuria of the Third Race) in some of the flat?headed
aborigines of your Australia" ("Esoteric Buddhism," p. 65)
SD 2.332 "As the Tasmanians are now completely extinct, and the
Australians rapidly dying out, so will the other old races soon
follow.
2.661 "the flat?headed Australian natives ? the lowest now in the
human races
