that mentions David -- actually the House of David. When the House of
David inscription was found, some believed it showed he must have
been important, because roughly 150 years after his death his legacy
was still important.
"But even after the discovery there are many historians who are not
convinced that he was a real king," Mazar said. "And stories about
Solomon are considered a kind of invention of some sort. ...
Israel is the world's most 'dug' country. And yet still no inscription of
Solomon. And only one inscription, 150 years after the "fact", possibly
mentioning a (legendary? mythical?) House of David. Nothing about King
David himself.
