Reg. "We assume that THEOSOPHY is that body of statements which
has lately been made available to us as the original articles and
books of Mme. Blavatsky, the Masters of Wisdom and of close students
to H P B, such as W Q Judge."
Antoine Faivre's "Le courant théosophique (fin xvie-xxe siècles):
essai de périodisation." summarizes all the major writers and
thinkers responsible for the theosophical phenomenon: from pre-
Boehmian theosophers such as Paracelsus, Valentin Weigel, Heinrich
Khunrath; to the central figure of Jacob Boehme; to important 17th
century figures such as Johann Georg Gichtel, Aegidius Gutmann,
Robert Fludd, Jane Leade, and Gottfried Arnold; to 18th century
theosophers, among whom were Friedrich Christoph Oetinger, Jacob
Brucker, Martinés de Pasqually and Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin; and
the important figures of the 19th and 20th centuries, including the
founders of the Theosophical Society.
